M’est d’avis qu’on aurait pu adjoindre ces quatre nouvelles chansons à l’album magistral qu’est For Emma Forever Ago, lancé par Bon Iver en 2008. Lancées sousla bannière Blood Bank, les chansons ont été créées par Justin Vernon dans cette même cabane du paternel au Wisconsin, mais elles ont été parachevées en Caroline du Nord ainsi qu’à Montréal. Chose certaine, elles nous indiquent que ce cycle de Bon Iver n’était pas terminé au tournant de 2007, puisqu’on y débusque encore de nouveaux procédés compositionnels des plus créatifs – pour un artiste folk, s’entend. L’amplification de la guitare, l’usage d’un motif hypnotique au piano, le jeu de steel et le traitement d’une voix multipiste parfois transformée (vocoder , auto-tune ou filtre comparable sur la chanson Woods), voilà autant de facteurs qui nous indiquent que Bon Iver a fait un autre bout de chemin depuis deux ans. Et qu’on attend impatiemment la mise à jour du prochain gisement.

Bon Iver nous touche à coup sûr,  entre autres parce qu’on y relève une sensibilité nordique commune aux artistes québécois. Voici d’ailleurs un exemple de sa connexion avec Montréal. Quelqu’un sait sûrement où et quand cette performance a été donnée sur une scène d’ici, n’est-ce pas ?
